2 Minutes from Haji Lane
Exploring Singapore’s most famous lane? Dinner is two minutes away. LAYALI sits at the corner where Beach Road meets Arab Street — halal Turkish charcoal grills, meze and kunefe, served daily until 1:00am.
The Neighbourhood
Haji Lane is wonderful for wandering — murals, boutiques, coffee — but most of its kitchens close early and seats are scarce. The good news: the district’s real dining room is the ring of streets around it, and Arab Street is where the charcoal grills live. LAYALI has stood on this corner — 257 Beach Road, at the very entry to Arab Street — as a halal Turkish restaurant serving the neighbourhood’s signature style of cooking: meat over real charcoal, never gas.
From the Beach Road end of Haji Lane, it is a flat 2-minute walk to our door — about 150 metres. From Bugis MRT (EW12/DT14), we are 5 minutes on foot, which makes us an easy first or last stop on any Kampong Gelam evening. The full menu runs until 1:00am daily, long after the lane itself has gone quiet.
Singapore’s most-photographed lane: murals, indie boutiques, gelato and cafés. Come in the late afternoon, shoot the street art in golden light, then walk two minutes to us when hunger arrives.
Textile shops, perfumeries and carpet sellers on one of Singapore’s oldest trading streets. Our terrace sits right at the entry — the corner where Beach Road meets Arab Street.
The pedestrian shophouse row in front of Sultan Mosque turns into an open-air dining room every evening. Worth a stroll before or after dinner.
The golden-domed heart of Kampong Gelam since 1824 — 3 minutes from our door. Visit at dusk, then follow the smell of charcoal to dinner.
After the Lane
Everything at LAYALI is cooked to order over charcoal: hand-pressed Adana kebab, lamb shish, shish tawouk, mixed grills built for sharing, and meze — hummus, ezme, haydari — with bread from the oven. Finish with pistachio baklava or a cheese kunefe that is still stretching when it reaches the table, alongside hot-sand Turkish coffee brewed in a copper cezve.
Choose the alfresco terrace facing Arab Street, the indoor dining hall, or — for groups — the Sultan’s Lounge private room upstairs. Weekday lunch (11am–3pm) takes 20% off the whole menu, and we are one of the few late-night halal restaurants in Singapore still serving full plates at midnight.
